Pelvic floor physiotherapy FAQs
What is pelvic floor physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy for the muscles inside the pelvis that support your bladder, bowel, sexual function and pelvic organs. It treats weakness or tension in these muscles to restore normal function.
Is it covered by private insurance?
It is billed as physiotherapy, which most private plans cover. Check your own policy to confirm.
Are internal exams always performed?
No. You can always decline. Your consent is required for any assessment or treatment, and external options are available and will be discussed.
When should I come in if I am pregnant?
The recommended time for a first visit is after 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Do I need to shave before my appointment?
No. Treatment focuses on the muscles, so there is no need.
Do I need to cancel if I have my period?
No, it is up to your comfort. There is plenty we can work on without an internal exam.
